"This project is being produced as a feature for the new construction of the
Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin
at Truckee, CA near Lake Tahoe. Granite is a common sight in
the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Its utilization in this project
was a specific customer request, as was the demand for quality
unavailable from the imported granite statuary market. The
resulting statue will provide a lasting feature of durable beauty,
respectful of protocol and tradition.
The customer directly commissioned this project, with only
a telephone referral through a dealer. The family has an extensive
heritage in the Truckee, CA region and desired the lasting impression
only public sculpture can provide."

These images show the development of the portrait-quality 1:1
clay model of the bust to be employed when carving this statue.
When completed, such a model can be used to accurately produce a
striking likeness in stone, submitted to the foundry for
reproduction in bronze or simply cast in plaster & patinated for
display in home or office (possibly to be produced in bronze or
stone at a later date when finances allow). Plaster castings may
also be distributed as a premium to patrons sponsoring a project.
|
|
Clay models offer professionals and customers significant
preliminary input towards achieving dependable & satisfactory
results, plus the potential for signature retail outlet products
unavailable from any other source- from bronze markers,
medallions & plaques to full round statuary. |
 |
| The plaster working model, cast from
the finished clay model above, immediately after unmolding. This
model is then finished as needed when still moist or "green" while
the original plaster is still somewhat receptive to resolution of
voids or damage. More surfacing is possible at the plaster dries
completely. |
 |
 |
The resolved model is then fitted
for use of a pointing machine- this one passed to me from my
Uncle, Master Sculptor Dario Rossi following his retirement.
Very traditional in use and method, the pointing machine allows
for dependable & accurate 1:1 replication of the model into stone.
