Following the lead of Master Sculptor Gary Sassi, Carolina Sculpture Studio has been purpose-built with the perpetuation of this craft in mind. Studio space and specific is available for independent-study art students, aspiring carvers and seasoned sculptors to experience the environment & heritage of a truly American stone-carving studio.

My Family and Masters shared their knowledge with me, expecting it to be passed on - not hoarded away. We are very proud to be one of the only domestic venues offering hands-on opportunities in stone cutting, carving, sculpting, and modeling. Work in granite or marble is not quickly mastered, usually requiring a substantial investment in equipment and facility before it can even be safely attempted.

Carolina Sculpture Studio was designed to accommodate up to eight carvers working simultaneously in a true working granite sculpture studio. The experience of the stone shed has no peer - the ring of the hammer and handset partnered with the "click" of the pneumatic machine chisel or "splat" of the nine-point. Academic settings rarely offer such authenticity. Using in-house equipment, learn what tools suit your needs before investing for your personal studio. Working with a medium as difficult as granite often leads to faster rates of production in softer media. Exposure to professional methods helps eliminate costly trial & error in subsequent projects. Tours of relevant nearby work, including architectural, memorial and public features, will expand the substance of the studio experience and broaden critical interpretation, especially concerning hand carved sculpture.
